800 EVA hours? it would take two people better than two months to log those kind of hours. Are the powers that be saying they expect whatever lunar lander they come up with to be able to sustain two people for that length of time? What are they planning on having them do that would take 800 hours? Unless you are talking about building some type of structure and then using the Moon as some sort of weigh station. In which case, it would take a helluva lot longer than 800 hours to complete that sort of project. It makes me wonder if NASA is the right agency for manned space flight on this scale. The people who had experience sending people to places like the Moon are all gone now. The scientists won the battle against the explorers at post-Apollo NASA and while they may be good at launching telescopes and probes they lack the hands-on experience of launching people to the far-flung reaches of space. It's not their fault, it's just not their thing. It could be turned over to a civilian agency like Space-X but that would raise the cost at least in the short-run. I'm okay with a return trip to the Moon but 800 hours? I'd like to know how that figure was arrived at.
