A lot of CGI is cheesy as hell. Some of it looks more like a video game than a film. In the good old days they just blew shit up if that was what they needed. Clear and Present Danger is a classic example. They bought a house from a couple going through a nasty divorce so both of them were good with blowing the place up. But I think it's more about storytelling. And telling decent stories you can take your kid to and not feel like you are committing child abuse. People are tired of gay nonsense and comic book stories. Look at some of the movies that have had the best return lately; Sound of Freedom, Jesus Revolution, Father Stu. And I bet Cabrini is going to do as well or better. As for the writers, they plain old lack life-experience. Life is not what they learned from the commie propagandist in the liberal arts college or what they went through as apprentices on some reality-tv show. The older writers got better as they lived more of their lives. Some 30 year old snot nosed who gets hired because she likes sleeping with women knows...well, that, and not much more. Shit in, shit out. Tell a good story, people will come. In the 1920s power shifted from London, Paris, and New York to Hollywood. Now it is migrating again. That is the nature of capitalism. Will the product improve? Time will tell.
