"If we ever lose our freedom we'll never be able to regain it." How right you are sir. Unfortunately, the young people of today have been taught that this is a lousy country with an evil past and individual liberty takes a back seat to the progressive movement. RIP Woody. I'm sure your buddies were there to greet you and say job well done.

I remember watching the TV the day Apollo 11 landed with my carboard LEM next to me thinking how cool, by the time I'm an astronaut we'll be going to Mars. Well, neither of those things happened but it's cool to hear from a guy who was involved with that flight and went to the Moon himself. I see some landing deniers or whatever they call themselves have commented here. It's a free country I suppose. I got a kick out of Buzz Aldrin giving one of em a good sock in the jaw. Not because it helped adjust the guys pee-sized brain or anything, it was just funny as hell and yes, the guy had it coming to him.

Great interview, great man. I grew up watching the Gemini and Apollo missions. Obviously Apollo 11 was huge but Apollo 13 really held the nations attention. By that time people were getting bored by the launches and more than a few wondered why we kept going back after beating the Soviets to the Moon. Apollo 13 got their attention again. Anyway, Jim Lovell and Neil Armstrong were my two favorite astronauts when I was a kid. It's great to see Captain Lovell still hanging around this tiny blue rock. An interesting life-story, that's for sure.

To catch the breaks he did that day? You got that right Jake, there is a God. You weren't meant to die on that beach. Not sure how the rest of your life went but I imagine you had a special appreciation for it. What a tale.
