  1. My friends and family used to ask me why I was a Republican. I came from a deep blue union state, they were all Democrats. Why aren't you a Democrat? I said first, I'm not a Republican. Then why do you always vote for the Republican candidate? I told them it was because the Democrats have crazy ideas that don't work. If they run someone who's a better option than the Republican I'll vote for them. That conversation started back in 1980. I'm still not a Republican, and you still have to earn my vote, but to be honest, since 2016 my vote is more about survival. The dems have moved from kinda crazy to full-out insane. My vote now is akin to trying to take the keys away from the teenager who's just finished a bottle of Jack and wants to drive to the store to get a keg to help wash it down. I don't trust the Republicans to make things better but you know what they're not doing? They're not actively calling for the destruction of the country and for the most part, they seem to like the place. Can't say the same about a big chunk of the Democratic Party. If they keep it honest during these midterms, there should be tsunami style red wave come November because I honestly believe more than 70% of the people think the dems are batshit nuts too. Some will pull the lever for the D just out of habit but the true believers in all of their nonsense is a much smaller number than CNN or MSNBC would have you believe. There will be a temper tantrum the likes of which you've never seen afterward but that's okay. At least we can slow down the fire long enough to maybe help those few who still think it's the Party of Truman and Kennedy to sober up. To borrow from the First Republican President I had the honor of voting for, we have reached a time for choosing folks.
