  1. "The past is not dead. In Fact, it's not even past." I like that a lot. We are experiential beings by nature. Everything I learn through my experiences remains with me throughout my entire life. So why should it be any different for humanity as a whole? Totalitarian movements always attack the past because as Orwell said in his book 1984, "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” However, they always fail in their attempt because traditions and beliefs handed down from generation to generation are not that easy to kill. That doesn't mean they can't be killed though. We owe it to subsequent generations to keep our shared, collective memories at the forefront of our cultural consciousness or we risk losing all that others have sacrificed so dearly to teach us. Men like Dr. Hanson are important because they are the modern-day keepers of the scrolls. Who will pick up the torch when men like him pass on? Who knows. But we need to groom them or we risk losing more than a bunch of nice stories.
