Cool video. It gives you an appreciation for just how finely tuned the conditions are for life on this tiny rock we call home. I recall reading somewhere that the oscillation of the solar system lines up with mass extinction events. The premise seemed to be that our proximity to other stars created a sort of gravitational tug-of-war within the Oort Cloud, sending long-period comets our way, some of which find their way to Earth. The research seemed to indicate we were overdue for a collision. Or maybe we just got lucky and dodged a bullet. Can you imagine something the size of Hale-Bopp smashing into us? Not even Billy Bob Thornton or Bruce Willis would be able to stop a beast like that. Anyway, cool stuff. The info was presented in a straight forward way. I did read about a paper that challenges the fast accelerating universe and posits that it is static, that we have been reading the data the wrong way. Wonder what that will do to cosmology if that theory proves to be correct. I guess the Science Channel will have to go back and redo all their gloom-and-doom scenarios about the fate of the universe if that turns out to be the case.

Maybe, and I'm just spit-ballin here, maybe we aren't finding anything because there's nothing to find. Nothing sentient anyway. Bacteria isn't likely to produce a show like I Love Lucy any time soon. Occam's Razor. I'm willing to bet there is a ton of microbial life brewing out there and you know what, that really doesn't move the needle for me. Nothing against plankton, I simply think any attempt at conversation would be too one-sided. Maybe we were selected for a very specific purpose. Maybe we did more than just win the cosmic lottery. I know, some scientists can't even entertain the thought of a creator because it's a competition of sorts with them and for those who do see it that way, the lack of any signs of ET phoning home doesn't bode well for their side. Maybe we are special. I think we are, but that's me. But I'll play along. Let's say life is random and we are just a highly evolved collection of cells. Our solar system is balanced just right to allow Earth to cook. And Earth is balanced just right to allow life to emerge. And life is balanced just right to evolve into us. That's a lot of winning lotto numbers. Take Jupiter away or move it in just a smidge and we are toast. Move the Moon in a bit and the tides are too crazy for us to come into being. Our magnetic field protects us but Mars wasn't so lucky. There are so many variables. It's not just a simple matter of A happened here and it led to B so A must lead to B everywhere else. I grew up in the age of Apollo and bought into Star Trek and shows like it lock stock and barrel. Then I grew up and discovered what a tricky balancing act we pulled off and it was like cold water to the face. So again, what if we don't hear anything because there simply is nothing to hear? Just sayin. But hey, that's just my take. Live long prosper star voyagers. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in the end. 🖖
