Röhm had served his purpose. Hitler was on to bigger things and the only way to get that done was to have the army on board with his plan. Röhm was seen as a threat, a sh*t disturber with the potential of messing up everything Hitler had in mind and getting the Führer killed for the effort. Hence Röhm had to go. It's that simple. To borrow from the Godfather, it wasn't personal, it was just business.
