  1. Hitler declared war on the U.S. for the simplest of reasons, it was what he wanted to do. He had it in his head that he was destined to lead Germany in a war against the democracies. It was always a matter when not if. In his way of thinking it made sense because they weren't just going to stand aside and let him conduct his war of annihilation against the Jews and other sub-humans while he grabbed living space in the East so why not get it on while the momentum was on his side. That was part of his destiny delusion as well.

That's true, but Germany didn't have any aircraft carriers and the Japanese may have had some but they couldn't afford to lose even a few because there was no way they could replace them, and the pilots who flew the aircraft at the same rate as the U.S. Yamamoto knew this which is why he was hellbent on taking as much as he could by the middle of 1942. It was the only shot Japan had of a negotiated settlement and when they got smoked at Midway the game was up for Japan. The lack of long-range four-engine bomber's also came back to bite the Führer in the ass when he went up against the Soviets.
