Instead of saying Marx was imitating someone else by avoiding work, why not go the Occam's Razor route and simply say he avoided work because he was self-absorbed and lazy? I have met my share of armchair philosophers who have that trait in common. As for Marx and God, a lot of people claim to be atheists but at the end of the day it's not that they don't believe in Him, they just don't want to recognize His authority or are mad at Him for some other reason. Hagel believed in a Geist that moved history along, so it would make sense that Marx would as well. Marx is like that grifter who shows up without being invited and then sleeps on the couch and eats your food until you show him the door. I know, I have helped people out who have behaved in a similar fashion. The deeper you go trying to explain Marx the more weight you lend him. For me anyway, he was just a guy who was full of sh*t and he had a gift for finding gullible people who could be convinced he was actually a genius. A cynical bullshi*t artist. But like I say, I try to keep things simple. We aren't as complicated as we make ourselves out to be. As Al Pacino said in his role as Lucifer in the movie The Devil's Advocate: "Vanity, definitely my favorite sin."
