A lot of numbers get tossed around but the basic gist was Churchill would have 10 or so ideas a day and nine of them were bad. Put this one squarely in the bad idea column, whoever came up with it. Tik makes the case, there was no appetite for a war with the USSR in either the U.S. or Britain. Nobody really gave a sh*t about Poland and the idea that you could whip up public sentiment for them in 46 was crazy. It could be this was just one of 100 war plans by people who get paid to come up with such plans but this one got leaked for one reason or another. Trial balloon? Who knows. But planning goes on every day. Following WWI U.S. war planners had several plans in place to fight Britain. It's a cottage industry inside of most defense departments. Kinda like Bruce Willis talking about NASA in the movie Armageddon: "I bet you got a room full of guys just thinking shit up and another group of guys backing them up." Makes for some good chum for the counterfactual waters though.
