  1. “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." That statement is attributed to Joseph Goebbels but there is no direct evidence that he was the one who first said it. But that doesn't make it any less true. The problem is, people more often prefer the lie. A lot of times it's more comforting. Is it easier to confront your own past and actions or is it easier to adopt an external locus of control and blame your lot in life on fate or the actions of others? It's easy for politician's to promise money that's not theirs to people they don't know and even easier for them to not follow through on that promise. As for slavery being a practice centered on race, it's estimated there are 50 million enslaved people living in the world today, more than at any time in human history. And 22% of those people are children. That's 11 million children. Now, what is more pressing, cutting a check to people whose ancestors may or may not have been slaves 160 years ago or using those resources to free those being held against their will today, especially the millions of children being trafficked for sex? Just asking, because it is a fair question and one you might want to consider the next time some libertarian makes an argument about pornography and prostitution being victimless crimes between consenting adults. Think especially hard about it if you find yourself visiting some free porn site. Nothing is free in this life. Just sayin.
