I've logged countless hours teaching and learning and learning and teaching. The longer I stuck around the worse it got. When I was an undergrad back in the days of pencils and bluebooks, you had to demonstrate critical thinking. Now? Now students just show up. They want to be told what is right and what is wrong. They aren't interested in figuring it out for themselves. When I was idealistic I had this notion that I was going to make dependent learning a thing of the past. I used to love teaching so much I told my students I would do it for free. By the time I left I couldn't stand being in the classroom. And it was the students themselves who brought that on. This country has raised an entire generation of disinterested young people and the ones immigrating in are bringing their culture with them. That is a recipe for disaster. Want to learn? Read a book. Want to waste your money? Go to Harvard.
