Don't get me wrong, most of my family and friends lean to the left, but we had a term in my working class neighborhood for guys like marx, it's not highly technical or clever, we called them assholes. I have noticed that trait has been passed down to his followers quite regularly.

If Marx had not written what he did and had people not followed him there would be at least a hundred million more people alive today. Nothing personal, but I could give two damns about some labor union naming some award after a communist. Sure he influenced a lot of people. So did Hitler. So did Mao, and Stalin. Look at all the death they wrought, either fighting against Marx's ideas or trying to make them work. Did ya ever think maybe Dr. Sowell just saw through Marx and decided he was wrong?
