Man, this thing is like the crew of the Titanic having radar saying: "The hell with what's on that screen, I feel like hitting the damn thing because it just needs to be hit. Someone should have hit that f***in iceberg years ago and by God we are going to be that someone." I get the ruse, put out the black lady, call any attack racist, and create a built-in reason for the disaster, the bigots and haters. It just seems to me, if the people at Amazon who are in charge of marketing this thing had half an ounce of self-awareness they would have started from the premise that their production is a story of fantasy based on their views and that while the retelling may not appeal to Tolkien's fanbase because of differences between it and the written works they hope people will give it a fair viewing for what is and judge it on that, a stand-alone entity based on the world of Tolkien but not necessarily of the world of Tolkien. At least then you disarm the traditionalists to a degree and at the same time acknowledge the thing was never built for them. It is aimed at Gen-Z and fellow travelers more interested in subtexts and messaging than storytelling which only acts as a backdrop, something to keep the kiddies coming back. It will no doubt flop with die-hard Tolkien fans but it may do quite well with that younger generation who don't hold Tolkien and his stories in the same regard. But they are playing a dangerous game getting nasty with that Tolkien fanbase because now it is not that group who are coming off as the bullies, it's the producers of the series and the half famous actors they plucked off the casting couch to act in the thing, not the traditional Tolkien fanbase who have simply expressed an opinion. At the end of the day, nobody likes a bully. So why set yourself up to be one? Perhaps it was just how they were raised.

It has to succeed so they'll just say it did. Sounds like the sort of thing that went on during Stalin's five-year plans. I heard a story about a town that was supposed to produce tractors but fell short of the quota by 30%. Stalin's logic, while confounding, was quite simple. The plan can't be wrong so the problem lay with the people. His solution? Send 30% of the population to the gulags, replace them with better people, and shoot the plant manager. The numbers became remarkably consistent and quite good after that. Or maybe they'll just use the plan a U.S. diplomat recommended to LBJ in 1965 WRT Vietnam. Declare victory, then quit. That seems like the more likely solution here.

I'll be honest, as the quintessential old white guy I didn't even know there was a black Anne Boleyn until I saw this video. The thing about these hollywood diversity projects is nobody watches them. And only a handful of people tune into the oscars anymore. Nobody wants to spend three hours watching a bunch of overpaid pretentious obnoxious arrogant sh*tbags schmooze each other while they give the middle finger to their consumer base by intentionally nominating movies nobody saw and calling the rest of the world names for not liking their BS. Yeah, I know, I was kind of hard on bags designed to carry sh*t by lumping them in with the kalifornia crowd but it's late and my metaphor well is a bit dry. The studios are losing money hand over fist but they seem to wear it as a badge of honor. It's like, whoever can insult the audience most creatively wins. What did the studios produce this summer that made any money? Barbie? A movie that extolls third wave feminism and appeals to a bunch of ditzy adolescent young girls? I'll give ya even money the remake will be black Barbie. I love it when the indie movies crush the warmed over dogsh*t the studios pump hundred of millions into. If I had the cash I'd do a remake of Roots with a Danish Kunta Kinte.

@nathanielalderson9111 I agree with your points but I don't think they aren't aware of who they are attacking. It's that they don't care, that's what bothers me most I suppose because it's just a dumb marketing strategy, and anytime I see somebody do something foolish it gets to me. But, as I say, I think it was just how the producers and actors were raised, maybe not by their parents, but certainly by their peers and mentors in the business.

@nathanielalderson9111 You are correct. It's more zealotry on their part than anything else. The woke agenda is a religion to them, and they see themselves as modern-day Puritans, out to set up a shining city on a hill. It is their cause, one more based on Moa than Christ but the passion burns within them as deeply as it did within the zealots of The Great Awakening or The Cultural Revolution. The message must come first. It's the same thing that kills a lot of faith-based movies. They get so consumed by the message that they lose sight of what it is that brings an audience in, the story, not the storyteller. Unfortunately, for the woke Puritans, slash and burn is a standard tactic. As I say, that is what bothers me. Want to make a woke Middle-Earth? Fine. Just admit as much and respect that people like me, who grew up with those books, just aren't going to be into it. That would be the wise strategy, but they just can't help themselves and I have just never suffered fools easily. Being ignorant is one thing. Doing something you know will not do you or your project any good is foolish. Unless your out to make a point or pick a fight. Then it devolves into the realm of stupid, and as the great southern philosopher Larry The Cable Guy put it: "Ya can't fix stupid."

Custodian's of Tolkien's vision with a baby-mama dwarf, black hobbits, African nomadic gardening tribes, and some good old LGBT action to satisfy the alphabet mafia? Wait until season three for it to improve? Sounds like taking a quart of sour milk and putting it back in the fridge anticipating it will be better in a week or two. I thought I had heard enough about this debacle to convince me never to look at it but give the woke creative bunch credit. Just when you think they can't get any worse somebody is there waiting for that "hold my beer" moment. I do think this is the final word on this mess, at least for me. As I've said, Tolkien fans were never the target audience. Amazon just needed a name to attach to to their version of Game of Thrones. This stuff was made for Gen Z and you know what, it will probably do well with that crowd. Amazon can then claim that Tolkien fans are just a bunch of narrow minded bigots and the numbers show that enough hip people get it. They get to dump on the traditional fanbase, promote the woke agenda, and spin it in a way that they will be able to claim a win. Well played I suppose. You know, the Soviets made movies too, but people only watched them to avoid the gulag. Anyway, thanks for the final word on this hot pile of dung.

When I was a kid you really didn't hear much from actors. Musicians would let you know what they thought to the point where eventually even their most die-hard fans would scream: "Just shut up and sing!" (see David Crosby, Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen). A few actors like Warren Beatty whose ego needs its own solar system to properly exist in would say stupid sh*t but most em just shut up, cashed the check, gave a donation to leftie causes to keep the media off their back, and moved onto their next role. The studio's would also hire handlers as a sort of redundant self-correcting mechanism for those odd times when someone like Marlon Brando or Martin Sheen would get caught in no-mans land and a mic would get shoved under their ill-informed pie holes. Then along came social media and all the dumbassery that used to only exist in the drunken/drug addled brains of these narcists was let loose into the universe. Can't put that genie back in the bottle. These celebrities will keep saying stupid sh*t with or without the help of the media now that all they have to do is speak into their phone because it's who they are. It's like asking a fish not to swim. Only now, the entire world has to deal with all the ridiculous crap that used to be reserved for people at Hollywood pool parties. Enjoy the show. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I suppose my saving grace is I was never a big Star Wars or Indiana Jones fan to begin with so having the human equivalent of a horde of locusts coming in and ripping these franchises to shreds really doesn't affect me much. This is the only review I've tuned into and I'm only here because of that weird sort of fascination people have for train wrecks I guess. Also, I knew what the Critical Drinker would have to say and I wanted a change of pace. My fear is that this kennedy woman will get her mitts on the Rocky Franchise and make a movie where Rocky goes back in time only this time Adrian beats Mr. T's ass. You know what, now that I see it, I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have even thought that one into existence.

I had no idea those shows outside of rings of power even existed. People will continue to tell these companies that two men having sex and guys dressed like women is nasty and people don't want it shoved in their faces. It has nothing to do with challenging social norms or whatever that fruitcake was blabbering about. The bottom line is normal people have a natural visceral aversion to abnormal behavior because it's gross and nasty and anyone who is not a pervert simply doesn't want to look at that crap. It doesn't take a poll and a deep analytical dive into the data to figure that one out. So why does it keep happening? Why do companies like Amazon, disney, target, bud light, and others keep putting these unqualified woke 30-something women in charge of their marketing and production teams knowing in advance they will most likely crash and burn and cost the company millions, billions for that matter? Because it is their religion. Wokism is every bit a religion as Catholicism or Protestantism. They have their own temples, cannon, and internal hierarchy. It is a matriarchy with high priestesses like that ditz who destroyed bud light and this woman crashing Amazon's creative department. The whole I am woman hear me bore experiment would have been abandoned a long time ago in a saner world but the world has changed. Wokism is all the rage and it will not go gently into that sweet night. Expect more of this and don't waste any time trying to figure out the why's behind it. That is a fools errand.
