It's the equivalent of trying to drive with the park brake engaged. It doesn't happen for hundreds of km's by accident and at the same time the tracking system just happens to malfunction. Just as the gas pipeline wasn't blown up by some drunken Ukrainians on a yacht. The entire globe is constantly monitored by satellites, the US military will be able to determine exactly where that ship was at all times.

@AcidGubba yes, the repair happens on deck. They typically have to use the boat to drag the one end of the broken cable over to the other end to reattach. Would be near impossible for a submersible to do that.

@HanSolo__ by Bojan Pancevski on the Wall Street Journal: A Drunken Evening, a Rented Yacht: The Real Story of the Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage C'mon man, if i don't believe the wsj what makes you think i'm going to believe you? 😂

@stevewoodyt so you're going with concealment and willful damage in order to not arrive late at a Russian port?

@jacktringoli3299 they don't dive down as in human divers, but they essentially locate the one end, send down a hook, pull it up to the ship, then locate the other end, rinse and repeat. The repair happens on the deck of the ship and then they drop the cable back down. There's animations of the whole process on other channels, i think wendover or reallifelore has a video on it.

@ShayneHartford the cables are typically buried under the sea bed, floating them would be a nightmare with currents, tides etc Google, bing and duckduckgo are all still free!
