Comments by "" (@sirtra) on "Can Trump's Tariffs Work?" video.
In the US the entry level Tesla model 3 costs $44k USD In Australia the entry level Tesla model 3 costs $34k USD (or 54k AUD) What's the difference? The Tesla cars sold in Australia are manufactured in China, the ones sold in the US are manufactured domestically. Why doesn't Tesla sell the cheaper Chinese produced Tesla cars in the US? The Chinese produced cars are subject to a 27.5% tariff in the US. In Australia they are not subject to any tariff. Meanwhile a BYD Atto 3 which is arguably larger than a model 3 and closer to a model Y costs only 29k USD (or 45k AUD) BYD are about to overtake Tesla in terms of the number of new EV sales per month. The only thing stopping Chinese produced cars from flooding the US market is the tariff - don't be fooled by people claiming it's also because they don't have a dealer network, Tesla certainly do and it didn't prevent BYD entering and flourishing in Australia. What do you think the majority of Americans would buy if they wanted to buy a new Tesla... USA made for $44k China made for $34k There's a reason Biden didn't reverse the tariffs Trump put in place.. they work.

@KingCloudsCape because you are competitors and consumers tend to buy the cheapest not best product Do you think Mc Donalds and Burger King are in cahoots with each other and artificially increasing the price of their burgers at some secret agreed upon price? What is stopping one of them breaking this secret deal and undercutting the other in order to boost sales? I can't believe ppl are not only pushing but falling for the whole price gouging narrative.

@aniksamiurrahman6365 "subsity" 😂 I see your self-awareness is on par with your education level, nice!

@aniksamiurrahman6365 perhaps you've heard of this phenomenon called inflation, you're college educated afterall.. i'm sure you can look up historical pricing and adjust for inflation if you so desire. It has nothing to do with the current price disparity between the US and AU though. The price of a model 3 in Australia was $66k in 2019, peaked at $73k in 2021 and hovered around 64k in 2022. The price has been slashed several times since BYD entered the market in 2023. You talk and type like a teenager.

@aniksamiurrahman6365 yes, Tesla have a near monopoly in the US as there is little competition in the EV market and hence there is little pressure to lower the price of their cars. In Australia however BYD entered the market in 2023 and offered a competing product at a much lower price. As Tesla has been rapidly losing market share they've slashed the price of their cars in order to be more competitive with BYD. This has resulted in the price of a brand new identical Tesla in Australia to be significantly cheaper than in the US - typically it's the complete opposite where an identical car is much more expensive in Australia. This is evident by looking at the price of a model 3 in Australia between 2019 to 2022 where it was always much higher than the US. During this time Tesla had a near monopoly in Australia with well over 90% of new EV sales being a Tesla. Then in 2023 BYD entered the market in Australia and offered a comparable product at a significantly lower price. Over the course of 2023 and 2024 Tesla began to lose market share as more and more people started buying BYD instead of Tesla and in recent months they have sold more cars than Tesla. This is what happens when a new player enters a market and there is competition rather than a near monopoly. Your reliance on ad hominin says far more about you than me.

@aniksamiurrahman6365 in the US Tesla have a near monopoly and prices are high In Australia Tesla had a near monopoly until 2022 and prices were higher than the US. In 2023 BYD entered the market and introduced a competing product at a lower price than a Tesla. In response Tesla have slashed their prices numerous times and a brand new Tesla is now cheaper in Australia than in the US. Thanks for playing and stay in school! I will not be responding to you any further as you are a child.

@aniksamiurrahman6365 please explain this monopoly you speak of and how it relates to the price of Tesla being cheaper in Australia where they compete with BYD compared to the US where they don't and prices are significantly higher. I eagerly await your college educated response.

@aniksamiurrahman6365 lol i see you've removed your comments where you claimed US manufacturers would raise their prices in response to tariffs but have since done a backflip and are now agreeing with me. You can't scrub all the evidence of this though, as you can't remove jpowell and my replies which to a careful observer will show you clearly have removed comments we replied to. Better late than never i guess, but some final advice: mature adults own their mistakes, they don't try to hide them - that's teenager behaviour.
