@cathryncavaney5070 combination of risk (death threats) and fatigue. It wasn't sudden for those paying attention, he was spotted house hunting about 6 months prior and his children are nearly ready to leave the nest. On the flipside resigning doesn't magically absolve him of past actions, he can still be charged or held liable for any wrong doing whether he is the premier or not. Hence even if one puts on a tin foil hat and assumes he resigned ahead of some grand conspiracy being revealed... what does resigning achieve other than giving handing over power and decision making to others in his party that have been part of it for decades? I'd argue that if he wanted to cover his tracks and hide something he would have remained in power so he could use that power to manipulate the situation to his benefit. He did the complete opposite though. Dodgy politicians don't gain the trust and popularity of the people in a country like Australia, our politicians are still held to account and we still have trust in our elections. This data that is being released is BECAUSE of our government putting systems in place to track and record it in the first place. Not to mention that it's still the same cabinet running the show behind the scenes and have released the report. Rather than be grateful for the release you want to take aim at the politicians who made it possible? Yeah that seems reasonable and makes you appear very sensible, calm and well informed...
