How do you get only 5 tons carry weight? Even using your own numbers it dont compute... it should be a range not a single numer DIESEL 36 ton max - 16 ton empty diesel = 20 ton carry BATTERY 36 ton max - 16 ton empty diesel - (8 to 16 battery) = (4 to 12 carry) So basically you are equating (4 to 12) as simply 5.. and you're not subtracting the weight of the diesel powertrain. Will a Tesla truck carry less? Yes of course the weight of batteries chew into the maximum allowed but its not about carry weight - its about the cost per mile per ton. How could an electric truck beat diesel? By making the cost to power/fuel it cheaper than diesel. Is that possible? Yes, diesel is a non-renewable single energy source.. generating electricity however is renewable and can be done via many sources. Progress generally requires lots of failing before you finally become successful... i'd rather the world have more Elon's than bitter academics... ie people not afraid to think outside the box and try stuff even if the napkin maths don't make much sense. Each to their own though, you don't become as rich and successful as Elon Musk by creating vaporware. And if he wants to spend lots of his money on ideas that other people think are stupid.. i say more power to him!

Haters gunna hate. I guess you don't know about Elon's history... id suggest reading up on what Elon did before Ebay, as in when he was a teenager with just a PC - he's a talented and motivated person whether you like him or hate him. Ideas alone are useless, whether its yours or someone elses, the difficult part is bringing them to fruition. If you're too scared to try and fail you will achieve very little in life. Oh remind me again, who came up with the idea of developing an electric road-legal sports car.. namely the roadster.. and actually managed to make it happen despite the critics saying it's a stupid idea at the time? If it wasn't Elon who was it?!

@Beer_Dad1975 who exactly has Elon exploited and lied to in order to make billions of dollars? What exactly has he done that is unethical? You make a lot of vague claims but i bet you cant back any of them up with even a shred of evidence.. merely the opinions of a bitter person with a demented view of the world. Are there any billionaires you respect or are you one of those types that think nobody with that amount of money can be a decent human being?

@rootbox6466 the roadster was NOT a concept prior to Elon - the Telsa company was prior to him, the idea of making electric vehicles was prior to him.. But the creation and design of the actual roadster was Elon. I see you convienently left out that portion of the wiki page you pasted, i wonder why. As ive already stated, coming up with an idea is fairly worthless.. Do you think the two initial founders of Tesla where the only ones in the world to think up the idea of creating an electric vehicle? Of course not! If all they required was money in order to create the worlds first road legal electric car, why bring Elon into the fold? Why not just find a silent investor and get it done? If it was your pet project that you felt you could handle all by yourself, would you bring on and investor and then appoint them to design and create your first product? More to the point if said investor had no value or skills other than their huge wallet, like you seem to suggest, then do you really think that investor would be able to actually see the design and creation of your pet project through to completion? Hate on Elon all you want, but there are few people in the entire world who could achieve what Elon has, with or without bucket loads of cash.. And with or without stealing other peoples ideas etc. I think most of Elon's critics are simply enaging in tall poppy syndrome. Elon could have retired decades ago, but he just keeps going from strength to strength and that annoys you.. doesnt it?

@rootbox6466 blind love? Ahh, you probably subscribe to the "us versus them" mentality or tribalism... where the only 2 options is to either hate or love someone, no inbetween or exceptions. Anyone who says anything even remotely positive about someone you hate must obviously just be brainwashed. It couldn't possibly be that they see things differently to you. He didn't just "oversee" but if thats what you think a CEO does (which is completely different to a chairman btw) you clearly have no knowledge of running a business or company, nor any leadership skills. It kinda explains why you have the jaded view of him though - if it were as simple as sitting in a chair stroking a cat like Dr Evil while everyone else does all the work why haven't you done it? Sounds like a pretty cruisy life. Lack of money? Well find an investor, should be easy yeah? You got a solid business plan ready that investors can look over right? Where have i given him praise on anything BUT his achievements and accomplishments, seriously point it out to me. I'll wait.
