If the dishwasher can perform all those functions once initiated from the app (as in it just sends a bunch of instructions/commands like say start in 90 minutes) and still performs correctly if internet access is subsequently cut from the washer.. there is no valid reason for it to require Internet access. Absolute worst case the app should be able to talk locally but let's be honest, what are the chances you'll be able to download and run the Bosche app on say an iPhone 8 or say Samsung Galaxy S7 ? I'd say slim to nil because why would they put time and effort into keeping the app updated and function on older devices. The phone and app you might use today won't be the same during the lifetime of that dishwasher. It's not beneficial to the consumer nor manufacturer. I don't even think it's about data harvesting or subscription plans.. i think it purely comes down to choosing the least effort solution today with complete disregard for the future because once they've sold you the dishwasher, what are you going to do in 3 years if Bosche decommission the entire cloud service side? Who do you turn to for help or who has power to rectify a situation? The US government? What if it's not a US company or product? You should return it, otherwise you are endorsing the companies that are doing this. If 1 out of every 4 customers did this, and Bosche lost sales over the cloud app stuff, you can bet they would rectify or change the product. It may cost you to return and get something else,it will cost them more.. but more importantly if you DON'T because the cheapest and easiest option is just keeping it, then you are doing EXACTLY what Bosche are doing. Choosing tbe cheapest snd easiest option with complete disregard for the future.
