From 1982-2000 Israel occupied South Lebanon. Today the frontline is monitored by UN peacekeepers (UNIFIL) ○ During the occupation, Israel committed grave human rights violations, including unlawful detention in the notorious Al-Khiam prison. As with Gaza, Israel also targeted UN shelters, killing 106 civilians in the 1996 Qana massacre Parts of Southern Lebanon remain occupied by Israel (The Shebaa farms)
