In actuality, he was logged out of his Amazon Alexa account, which made in near impossible to use all the various smart-home tech in his home, but he was not locked out of the house itself. In an update, the Microsoft engineer at the center of this story said: "I was never locked out of anything except Alexa due to self-hosting most of my services and many devices only need to run locally or fall back to their 'dumb' state."
