You can't really insulate those old wooden homes, I don't think. You're probably looking at this from a Western perspective, where most homes are made with solid walls that render themselves well to having insulation fitted on them. But when your walls are made of paper, insulating it means replacing the paper doors with double glazing, which requires a whole new system of tracks, and it's much heavier, requiring reinforced mounting, which means you now need to change the entire wall, and now you might as well change the roof to cause it's also inadequate. All in all, you'd have to level the house and build a new one.

I don't think it's cheaper, or more efficient. Maybe it's more efficient in the way that if your feet are warm, you don't need to heat the room quite as much. But if we're going by room air temperature, I am not sure it is more efficient. It's probably less so, as a radiator is much better at exchanging heat with the air than some pipes in the floor. Also, you can design any heating system to section off rooms.

And you more or less sleep on the floor... That's rough.

Sounds a bit like the UK, maybe a tiny bit colder.

@animeloveer97 No, it isn't a radiator. It's a slab of wood. Where are the heat exchange elements? What's the thermal conductivity of wood compared to aluminum?
