  1. @zack9912000  just look at a foot pounds chart for any of them and you immediately see that what you said is embarrassingly wrong. 40 is absolutely more powerful than 45. Whether you're comparing a standard pressure to standard pressure or + p to + p 40 beats it. A lot of 45 has decent terminal performance up close but sheds velocity so quickly that it won't even mushroom reliably within surprisingly short distances.

  2. My EDC is 9 mm so I certainly don't hate nine. But this bandwagon has always been just that- a stupid bandwagon. Said it exactly right most people think that 40 falls between 9 and 45 on power but it's actually hotter. You can't find a jhp in 40 Smith & Wesson that doesn't outperform the very best 9 mm. That doesn't mean 9 mm isn't enough. But it does mean if your uncle who isn't into guns gets a 40 caliber handgun and walks into the store and says give me a box of 40 caliber hollow points it's almost certain he made a decent choice. If you do the same thing in 9 you might come out with 9 mm rip or something that won't penetrate adequately.
