I would say describing the government is not forcing us to almost has it backwards. a lot of white us trade and industry works in imperial is because we must build and manufacture according to myraid regulations which are set in standard units. Ships are built to barrel widths. Pipes are NPT in various schedules. The cost of persuading the government to allow a new way of doing any tasks often exceeds the profit margin. only if the ability to source cheaper or better material that is metric allows a company to have a competitive advantage is it worth the dual costs of switching processes and lobbying for permission.
