  2. I think it's because most people have been countered enough people who go down that rabbit hole and don't come up. Once you start engaging conspiratorial style thinking you stop looking for evidence and you start looking for evidence of disagreement. You literally becoming capable of reasoning well, and disagreement implies that they are part of it. I say this having very very intelligent friends who went down that track and eventually killed themself, or ruined all of their relationships. It's kind of like hard drugs, small doses at first doesn't look like that big a deal sure you know somebody who gets away with it.... But it is addictive and once you're addicted it just seems normal.

  3. You are giving credit for near misses. That's how every crowd reading psychic keeps his audience. Say a few things that are likely to be true by chance. Some are wrong some are right, by chance. You remember the correct, and forget the incorrect.
