+Grainexpress When I use a tiresome cliche, there is at least one person who sighs internally.

Kevin Renner I meant as the word in the sentence above. i.e. Sharia law is not stone age, it is evil.

Kevin Renner evil works better.

The formula for writing a Paul Johnson book is to make a really good point with a whole bunch of fascinating people and always one person who just obviously does not belong in the list. it's been awhile since I read intellectuals so I can't remember who the obvious person who doesn't fit is but it definitely had one. Is that the book where he included Mae West?

So he's going to talk on everything except the topic?! That's how he treats the most important video he ever did....?! Really?

I know the difference, but as far as we are concerned, the terms are synonymous. I doubt many Europeans can name all the US states, even though a lot of them cover larger areas than European nations. I don't blame them either. I couldn't draw you a map of exactly where Wales starts and England ends, just a curve showing that it's roughly this bit in that corner. As near as I can tell the distinction no longer has any real political effect. Ireland is distinct, sorta, and the Isle of Man too, kinda moreso?

+The Wizard (Of New Zealand) By canons of legal construction, "or" is interpreted to include "and."

+Terry Wrist Does not work. Marriage is the intersection of the Venn diagrams for individual, state, family, business, and church. State can't be cut out, because marriage necessarily involves a joinder of property rights and also inheritance, contract, parentage rights.... All of those are also affected greatly and need sorted out by an entity with authority if the marriage breaks up. Thus, there has to be a clear point at which a state recognizes a marriage and when it does not.

And when there isn't a will, or there is a question of who owned which thing that was in the shared house for 50+ years? Wishful thinking won't resolve this for you.

Where did all the insane white supremacist traffic that seems to be commenting below come from? They are far from representative of conservatism.

+Roland Stuntonem You say "know", but I think if you reflect, "conjecture" would fit better.

He wasn't able to flesh out all of Lewis's logic in the space of 5 minutes. Good try, but I doubt this will persuade anyone.

I agree with all of that except the assertion that people are merely born narcisist and neutral. Nope we are born evil. Yes we have potential, but a baby is not merely selfish, they are also malicious and cruel. Kids who can't even crawl will bite and pull hair and hit. Not because it gives them some advantage, just because they want to give pain. What else is that?

Meh. Dickens was kind of progressive. Also he was never subtle.

This is far more useful than the Will Whit stuff. This is wholesome, that stuff is just tribal smugness, and kinda lazy.

No night time TV bands are the worst thing about them. awful banter and the sound of a saxophone trying to imitate a dying goose. That is one thing you do not need to imitate.

Depends a lot on editing choices. What are the odds that none of them mentioned Christ? Prager is Jewish humanist... He would naturally de emphasize Jesus, and push the shared behavioral values.

I'm a communist who also happens to believe in individual liberty over collective benefit, and personal property...

The question is framed wrong. The actual question presented should be, "do people lose their human rights of capable self-defense when they take a job as a teacher?"
1
Which is irrelevant unless you are crazy and evil.

Having friends who went there I wouldn't send my kids to it. I am emphatically Christian.
