  1. To confirm with the other guy said. Actual lawyer here: suing isn't going to be a thing. There would be no basis to state a valid claim. What would hurt Jason know would be a mob of Tesla's zealots, and also companies like Tesla denying him access to their vehicles because he makes them look bad. So he has to be diplomatic when he says something negative. There are other people who make successful careers by not being diplomatic when they see something negative, but they don't usually get early access to the fancy cars.

  3.  @MoonLiteNite  there's a couple of reasons. Firstly truth is an absolute defense to defamation. Secondly, he relied on their published numbers. He is clarifying their claims. He's not said their numbers are false he said that they have used them in a misleading way. They have no change in the numbers that they didn't state would overcome that fact. And for bonus third, what exactly would be the damages that they could prove. Could they demonstrate that they have even one lost sale because of this video? At most you can get somebody to give their word for it and that's hardly empirical. So in effect I think he's immune to action. If they did sue him he could probably actually get a lot of industry traction and money out of the publicity. Whereas even if they were like "yeah we did manage to squeeze an extra point one second out of there while making facially shady claims, so suck it...." That wouldn't look good on them either. It would be a terrible publicity for Tesla to argue the case and say in effect Yes the numbers we use for marketing were arranged in a way that is intentionally deceptive but we did manage to just barely live up to them.

  5. Seafox . Need to understand that in Europe and in USA the way of measuring octane is not the same so the numbers are not directly correlative . There are some videos out there that explain how you can make comparison if you want to . Since we're on the topic euro diesel is quite a bit more potent than US diesel and is priced accordingly .

  6. Michael T. A little too simple of a rule though. As much as I ascribe to the idea generally, you have to look at the ACTUAL track record as opposed to the theory. The objective overwhelming truth is that modern cars engine and drive trains routinely last hundreds of thousands of miles. Cars from the 1950s needed rebuilt about every 50K. Simpler didn't really last longer. The trend is also true for 1980s and 1990s vehicles.

  8.  @Keckegenkai  You seem to be making the mistake of looking at people as labels rather than as individuals. As a person who does go out into the woods a lot, I see at least as many subies out there as jeeps. I've seen a lot more jeeps stuck in ditches on roadside when it snows. I think the difference is that the subaru is cheap enough to actually use. The people who buy them look at the places as the goal, not as an excuse to justify tricking out the vehicle, so they go more places. The rock crawlers view the vehicle build itself as the goal so the occasional offroad challenges are just frequent enough to prove out the latest motifications, (or repairs.) Not saying one or the other is better, just saying that's what I see.

  9. It's not so much that cars are a hostile environment as it is that they are used for longer than other electronics. ROHS compliant solder starts going wonky after about 10 years. You don't notice with your phone or laptop, because you've replaced them at least twice. Your car is another story.

  12. Funny. I used to have a protege with tokico sport suspension that dropped it about 1.25" (probably a shade more in reality). I went on a lot of rough roads with deep muddy ruts where kitted out jeeps were getting stuck. There's a lot to be said for picking your line and letting enertia carry you past the bad bits. Admittedly I was pushing my luck and got away with it.

  21. +Javad Sharifzadeh-Najafi Good points, but #4 has a very solid counterpoint. Electronic sensing of wheelspin and torque limiting is far easier with an electric. They can get very close to a 1:1 ratio between available traction and instantaneous torque. This is why the electrified Ariel Atom based drag car could get such good times. Each wheel can be putting down exactly as much torque as the wheel has grip at any instant.

  25. Aaron Price They keep changing the terms to make it harder. I have hundreds of thousands of views now and have never seen a cent. Nor did I ever expect to. In order to get any ad revenue, you basically need a channel wich will get you near a million views in the first day per video. That's why most people who create quality content seriously set up Patreon accounts. Then they only have to cater to their viewers, instead of advertisers and faith in googletube's policies.

  27. I think a big trend that people really overlook in this is housing. More and more cities and City planning pushes people into high-density apartments. For many of those you can't even plan on having the same parking everyday, let alone having a dedicated charging station in a secure location that people won't steal from or vandalize. This means electric cars are simply not for a substantial number of urban dwellers. Germany country dwellers they currently are not durable enough and don't have the range. Simply put electric cars make sense for somebody who has a house with a garage, AND enough money up front to pay for the increased cost of the car and its charging system. That's a pretty small section of society.

  30. I seriously doubt that those laws will survive unchanged. You can legislate "all people shall levitate by telekinesis by 2019", but that doesn't make it possible or practical.

  35. I've had to help a lot of people understand shotguns and how they work. There isn't even more maddening measurement system called dram equivalency. If you think horsepower is make no sense drama equivalency is something like goose powers coming out in the 1960s. It causes so much confusion and what we're really getting down to is mass times acceleration squared which oh I bet you is an engineer knoe a term for that. We gun people would call that muzzle energy. Not nearly as useful for marketing as something obfuscatory.
