He tries to be humble about that but when he's talking about online informationhe has to be aware of how much of that is aggregated and publicized by himself.

@chrisstephens6673 I think he's done more than just boost interest in particular obscure models. I think he has made a lot more people interested in collecting in general, and more aware that it's possible for money that normal people have, not just small business owners approaching retirement.

I think that's true for anyting collector niche. like nobody wants your old Kewpie doll that didn't have nostalgia for them as a kid. But something tells me you're old Smith & Wesson model 10 isn't going to drop in value. It'll always be a basic cool gun.

@EFCasual I think anything made to be collectible inherently isn't. so an otherwise nice lever action rifle that has John Wayne or gene autry etc on it must depreciate faster than just a plain old 30 30. Even worse is event commemoratives. I.e. 1995 NRA convention, special edition collectible 1911. would you rather have that or the plane gun without the special edition commemorative gold inlay? Me too. it's occurred to me that if you want to really clean pristine not thrashed lever gun to go beat up in your pickup probably you want to look for all of those awful commemoratives.

You should sell it in a lot with your gold-plated Trump edition Para-Ordnance Thompson.

@kchickenlord as in the gun that you own personally or a gun of the same type? "Personally handled by Ian" is pretty decent provenance.

@ronmears5621 I really dispute that. For land, sure. For other stuff, no way. We can buy semi automatic rifles for $400, that are a heck of a lot more rifle than what was available in 1930. Sure there was post war surplus cheap for a while, but we are still paying taxes to cover the expense of that. I can spend a month's wage on a car with stereo and air conditioning, that would probably last 5 years, and need nothing more than tires oil and spark plugs. Your grandfather couldn't buy a new car that would go more than a year without needing an overhaul.

@StarSwarm. Even after you import them?
