@stefanmolnapor910 I will add your caveat to mine. Mine is just a thought but I don't think the concept is new. It is definitely more of an issue in America versus other countries because we seem to respect our military a lot more than others do. It seems like the people most likely to do big embarrassing examples of it are people who washed out of the military but claimed exemplary service and some heroic role.

No I heard that phrase used well before internet was a popular thing. it's a product of people looking up to the military a lot. So when in the '90s military became popularly in honorable profession again in the popular mindset, then there was more desire to do that. It's also not very relevant in a long period between conflicts since if you haven't had a war in 30 years no 30-year-old could plausibly pretend to be a hero...

honestly I think most of the real stolen valor in the world is people who technically served in the military but didn't do anything which could be described as valor. and then they spend the rest of their life harping on about their military service and why that makes them a super citizen. in my life I may be met a couple of guys who acted like they had been in the military but weren't. They were easily recognizable as semi-compulsive liars. I love wearing military peacoats because they're really nice coats I've had one or two people act like I was somehow pretending to be military for having a 1950s wool air Force jacket with no insignia on it. I thought they were pretty retarded. I use other military kit if it's good kit I have an old army rucksack that I use in the woods sometimes, and some old style insulated leather army boots that I wear when it's snowy. But I've never wanted to be military and I don't really understand why somebody would fake it, but not just join up.

You're basically describing mid 2000 era paintball gun technology. most of them had optical or pressure sensors which would not allow the bolt to move forward until ammunition was detected fully in breach. This prevented the previously common problem of chopped paint. Then feed systems also got optical or bend sensors to detect gaps and essentially preschool up feed pressure. The latest real innovation that I'm aware of is that now you can Bluetooth sync your feed system to your gun. What that means is even as the gun is firing it's first shot the feed system is already spooling up. This reduces lag for high volume fire. The breach sensor prevents jams but it can create lag.

I don't think he was in the military. I'm pretty sure that would have been training for some reenactment camp or something like that that he would be referencing.

@CarrotConsumer yeah that's with bloke on the range.

I wonder how prone the magnets are to shattering over time.

I definitely think that product is worth looking into. I would like it a lot better if it were sealed into a cartridge or something so that filings could not get into it.

They would also attract debris from the wearing components of the gun steel cased ammo etc into the action of the gun.

No Hugh Hefner is a disgusting old pimp. He's the antithesis of classy. Ian is a guy with actual taste who's chosen to have a decent life. people keep posting this just because he has a smoking jacket but man is that an in apt comparison.
1
True but I think Ian was broadly right. It's like quibbling about whether one of the particular world war one bolt actions was substantially better than another. And the answer is not enough to matter.

@mpetersen6 Yes I remember those they were all at least a couple years ago though right? But still they are all variations on a type and in the same general category of performance. A nicer bolt action is still not in the same category as a semi-auto. And a slightly nicer single shot is still a single shot.
