Sporterizing is history too. Military rifles tell the story of the military. Sporterized rifles tell the story of the nation. A sporterized krag tells you about the marksman from the 1930s mostly. a lot of those old gun writers spend a lot of time talking about how smooth their krags were. Imo that's a pretty interesting story and tells you a lot about the mindset of the era. You see some with really nice workmanship in them. Honestly with all of the effort on restoring to the original mass-produced generic form I expect in another 20 or 30 years there will be a kick of people looking for the sporterized configuration as history from the 1930s to 1960s when that was really popular. It's hard to imagine people being excited about a mosin and an archangel stock but maybe that will happen someday too. It just doesn't have the same degree of personalization and care that some of the things I see from particularly the 1950s show.

I think a lot of that will get simpler as the information age comes across. I could a totally see forums getting basically big spreadsheets for serialized parts exchange. I have a Mauser with bolt number x you have a Mauser with bolt number y let's trade bolts. I think most collectors would be willing to trade bolts with somebody to help them get their numbers matching. At least if they could see pictures of what they're getting in exchange.
