Do you think they modified an original? Or do you think they just copied the look of it?

 @ForgottenWeapons good. That was what I figured. I don't think it would be very hard to use a CNC router in 2.5 D software to mock-up a pretty good-looking copy of that since most of the shapes are basically flat with chamfered edges. Then you could make it take whatever random parts you had in the bin. For example, the Mauser-ish hammer, and the stocks. Plus if I were Disney , I would want all the weapons to be a completely unique design. So that they have a style patent. Or potentially, they could trade mark it but that's legal nitpicking. The point being, they would like to control who could do the reproductions and sell them. If it has a unique butt shape, distinct markings, and only shares some outline aspects from the Bergman, I think they can make a pretty strong claim that it's an original artistic creation. Possibly even that it's an intrinsic element of their character. And that would be subject to copyright which lasts practically forever.
