I don't know I think it's pretty simple but of course that's mere speculation /what every ignorant person says. In my mind the main reason Colt wouldn't have followed through with this is it's recognizably their competitor's technology knocked off. Any gun guy who looks at that would say it's a Beretta. Colt spent the last 20 years of their meaningful existence in the handgun market making fun of Beretta as the wimpy inferior replacement for cult. If their next gun on the market is very obviously a knockoff of a Beretta it undermines their entire brand at that point. It's that same reason Harley can't make a modern decent motorcycle. they've spent the last 40 years telling us that modern technology isn't as manly as sad ergonomics and underpowered loud motors. Anytime they hint at making a motorcycle with decent performance and a modern engine and suspension layout they are having to admit that they were wrong the whole time.
