I inspected an AR9 that had one of those earlier this year. No damage to the gun. A small nick on the top of the magazine. Slightly alarming, but no harm done. I'm not really sure what caused it I didn't see any evidence of a sticky firing pin, and if it is not fully in battery the hammer is n't able to squarely strike the firing pin and give it enough protrusion. My best guess is maybe some piece of grit got on the bolt face.

@Broken_Yugo with the particular geometry of that gun the bolt couldn't be back even a mm and have any contact with the firing pin. I don't think that was the issue. And bolt bounce doesn't seem particularly likely either. In order for that to be a problem you would have to have a combination of hang fire and severe bounce perfectly timed. I tried to create bolt bounds even without a cartridge and didn't see any. Granted I didn't have a slow mo camera on it. That is one of my gripes about the AR system in general though. the floating firing pin seems like a very fixable flaw. All they would need to do is bore out the firing pin channel a little bit and add a spring and it wouldn't be an issue or a possibility. My version of the WWSD 2020 would have just that.

@Broken_Yugo I am familiar with the design. And I'm also familiar with the fact that the firing pin will dimple the primer a little bit every time you chamber around on an AR-15. that necessitates relatively hard primers and it just seems like a needless risk that could be eliminated at no cost. In my opinion it would be an improvement to the system to solve that.
