Forgotten Weapons

Well that particular arms races happened many times throughout history. It's kind of cyclic. The armor out strips the weapon but it's cheaper and easier and lighter to carry a weapon that can defeat the next level of armor so the weapons bump up then the armor bumps up and becomes extremely costly and heavy and cumbersome. And then the weapon does the same. And then airplanes come along and render your dreadnoughts useless. Then people say speed will be your armor. And now Intel will be your armor. And then you have people sitting on patrol and occupation for a long time where neither speed nor intel will be a substitute for a patient adversary. So then trying to be friendly with the people you are occupying is supposed to become your armor, but that never really works. So people blame the body armor for not being enough or the gun for not being enough but the truth is it's a game of paper rock scissors. If you always throw a rock people will always counter with paper so you bust out the scissors.... The smaller force always will end up playing the role that causes the bigger force to spend the most logistics possible. It's the move that works the best for them. if we bring guns that beat their armor or beat their range they will change tactics to where armor and range are irrelevant. Then we will start packing light. then armor and range will become relevant again and the cycle will just keep on going.

@ProSimex84 not anymore. Drones can be had for a few hundred. They are so cheap goat herders are using them in war.

@ProSimex84 You're looking at the wrong comparison point. It's what the US spends to train a single infantry guy. The dumbest soldier you ever met since the 1990s cost something over 300,000. you can make a lot of remote control ATVs with machine guns on them for that kind of money. A lot of RC planes with explosives on them for that kind of money. A lot of quadrotors for that kind of money. Yes you could train soldiers less but they're not going to.

@megalamanooblol More likely we will have our bots do the infantry job. Ultimately there's somebody who has to live somewhere who is making decisions and they are always vulnerable. Probably most of the people making decisions won't be wearing armor of any kind.
