  5. there were several similar incidents in the US too due to glitches in their warning system... many sources talk about how close the world came to nuclear war during the cold war and how ready the US and soviets were to blow each other up, but if you look into these times when they "almost launched" it becomes obvious that no one wanted to launch these missiles on either side and were willing to wait basically until they saw a storm of nukes on the horizon to launch theirs.
