  1. seems most likely they started milling the powder wet so it didn't explode and then had to break it up somehow and it happened to work better.

  3.  @one-eyedepi9338  it doesn't really matter... it took a lifetime(being about 20 years at the time) to train a bowman that could actually wield a longbow effectively... you can train any idiot to load and fire a gun in about 10min. there were a lot of idiots back then...
