  1. what about the time delay required for the STL ship to communicate with earth? would them having FTL communication make them an FTL ship? can the ship be STL and FTL at the same time? I feel like this example is too much "in a vacuum" ignoring the realities of... reality. just the time it takes the crew of the STL ship to decide to tell earth anything is probably too slow in this timescale anyways...
