  4. I imagine it allows the pilot to sit, and possibly adjust their posture. what's that thing that says "emergency use only" though? that seems interesting.

  7. if it were fully automated there would be no pilot (maybe an emergency override or something) and you could have a redundant flight computer. heck, you could have each engine and system with it's own computer connected P2P on a wireless network in a cloud so that you could lose any single system and they rest wouldn't care.

  8. still... if I were on a plane that was going down I'd rather have a parachute than not. most of those reasons make sense in the case of minor malfunctions, but in a true disaster situation I think most of those would be either irrelevant or could be easily worked around (like wait until a lower altitude to jump?). wana freak people out on a flight? bring a parachute as carry on. lol.

  18.  @speedbird9313  because that's the only metric I knew specifically... but I imagine if they were flying in jets that high up they probably had some distance between them, not to mention 2 windows and probably a helmet visor.
