Yikes!!! That sounds terrible.

phoenix is a great example of how dreadful car dependant suburban sprawl is.

OMG!!!! You're here too! I love watching your content.๐๐๐

why?

It's a good thing countries that have warm/hot weather, Spain and Italy, plant these things called TREES and have infrastructure that accommodates cylers and pedestrians. My sister lived in Iran and would cycle everywhere, yes IRAN, a country in the middle East.

Yup!!!!
6
Yup!!!

except, this video makes an excellent case as to why north american infrastructure is subpar and expensive. Not to mention also very dangerous.
4
lol!!! Freedom of movement is when i have to buy a car to go anywhere at all times.
4
my God, American cities look so desolate and hostile. It's like an atomic bomb was dropped on them.
4
I think a lot of people do.
4
Except it's incredibly dangerous for all involved, unlike in the Netherlands.
4
No it's not!!! for the most part it's boring, inefficient and ugly! create variety and allow people to have options, not everyone wants to live in a dull suburb. Where does overpopulation come in???
3
Nope!!! most developed counties in the world have mass transit in smaller settlements. i've been ti villages in spain that have trams and trails, villages with at most 10,000 people, mostly rural by the way. Suburbia is a hellscape, its nothing but identical foam houses that stretch out endlessly. There is nothing to do, nowhere to go and nothing to really enjoy. i would HATE living in an american suburb.
3
Same thing in Kenya, and I hope it stays that way. I don't want Nairobi to lose it's greenery and vegetation to wide highways and endless parking lots/ urban sprawl.
3
Oh please... Tesla isn't worth shit!! Those crappy trucks they released last year are a LITERAL hazard and can barely function as off road truck.
2
Same, which country are you from?
2
Um... did you miss the part where he notes the many fucks ups and potential hazard those self driving cars cause!!??
2
Too bad it isn't sustainable and is bankrupting cities/ destroying the environment. Your suburban dream is unattainable and unsustainable. Sorry!
2
lol!!! fun fact, most cities in north America were also built before the car. The difference is during the 60's the auto and oil industries completely reshaped the american urban landscape, by that i mean destroyed, and demolished entire streets and building just to re-design it for cars.
2
ย @stackhat8624ย Lol!!๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐ that's probably what people like that think.
2
Yup!!!!!
2
To me, suburbs are an incredibly toxic environment with dull and boring people not to mention unattractive housing and sprawling asfault. There's NOTHING "green" about them despite what suburbanites say. They are ecologically destructive and unsustainable. Hong Kong is a gross exaggeration of what a city is like. It's highly dense due to space and urban planning, not to mention expense.
2
yup!!!!
2
ย @SPSouth0000ย this guy is actually canadian and has lived in north america for most of his life
2
It's ugly and sprawled. Look at the map of Paris and compare in to L.A
2
yup!!!! I completely agree.

As someone who raised in suburbia, i found it to be one if the most hellish experiences of my life. It's isolated and boring. I'd much rather raise a kid in a Dutch or mixed zoned city a.k.a a normal human settlement, than a suburb.
2
But, they do own their own house/ apartments. Plus, your "suburban dream" is unsustainable and a nightmare for the city and environment. That's the point of this whole video.
2
ย @torreyance2468ย No they don't! suburbs don't turn into cities and old American towns which are now cities, were never suburbs. You're very wrong about that. Ghost towns in Europe happened due to dying industry's, war and financial down turns. That being said most towns in Europe are still occupied till this day.
2
Lol!! Same, I can't imagine Nairobi having anything resembling this.๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐
2
How?? You cities aren't even that dense and your population is in decline.
2
why???? stroades are inefficient, dangerous and ugly! i would die of anxiety if i had to drive on most american roads.
2
He already explained this. Watch the whole video.
1
Yup!!
1
what??? when does he do that?
1
Oh no! That sucks.โนโน
1
Truth!
1
It's highly efficient.
1
yup!!! i've always thought the same as well.
1
Which city did you grow up in.
1
What a dumb comment!!๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐
1
Same here.
1
like???
1
I HOPE my country doesn't.
1
What??
1
God I hate north American suburbs, thank you for this video.
1
What the fuck are you talking about? You sound delusional and stupid.
1
Yup!!!

Toronto is soooo large for a city with such a small population. The city I'm from, Nairobi, is probably half the size yet we have 5 million people living in it. Not to mention a large national park and multiple green spaces, even forests. I don't understand how North American cities are designed, I just don't understand it. They are soo inefficient and unsustainable. ๐คข๐คข๐คข๐๐๐
1
ย @calcyiteslashmaster2174ย how so? Taking a walk down Manchester, England or in Paris, France is far more exciting and stimulating than driving round a culdesac with the exact same houses and lawns. You can go into a bakery, walk in a green park, go into an art store and genuinely admire the unique and historic architecture as opposed to looking at a series of green lawns and mcmansion's. I'd rather live in either of those two cities than in a dull, American suburb.
1
ย @calcyiteslashmaster2174ย the reason cities in america are in the stare they are in now is because of de- industrialisation and suburban funding. Cities pay a lot so suburbanites can live in a sprawled neighbourhood, they allocate a lot of funds to accommodate suburban areas. If they didn't they could once again pay into much needed social programs, better architecture and upkeep in general. The crisis in cities is a result of faulty and sometimes greedy policy making, not cities themselves. Sorry, but most American suburbs are ugly. Why the hell would I want to live in a crappy mcmansion???? I'd settle for a brown stone or tenement flat anyday. Point to one building in an American city that looks identical to another, with the exception of some low income flats most of them have their own style of architecture. Most houses in the suburbs are literally identical, from the shape to the maternal used. If by landscaping you mean bland green lawns then sure, suburbia is full of those.
1
They truly are.
1
Urban sprawl in Canada is terrible!!!!!
1
Suburbia can't thrive without the cities, the cities literaly pay for them. If you actually watched the video you would know that. I don't see how it a inhuman to live in a highly dense/ populous region. Humans have been doing so for millenia, just look at Europe or Asia.
1
ย @chiragmakwana8171ย I mean in the sense that dense living was the norm, maybe not an actual large city but a town or hamlet. If you look at old medieval paintings of Europe, you notice how urban development prioritised density over sprawl. Economically and socially it made more sense. American suburbs aren't as ideal as you'd think, they certainly aren't comparable to living in a rural village or homestead.
1
ย @chiragmakwana8171ย cities are and always will be part of human life and living. Suburbia is failing experiment that has barely lasted 60 years. It's built on an unsustainable model of sprawl and consumption. How is it elitist to point out the failed model of suburbs and how they are draining cities of resources and funds??
1
You mean mass de- industrialisation pushed by the Reagan administration in the 80s, which inevitably led to cities, who's bread and butter was manufacturing, to fail. E.g Detroit.
1
you sound crazy!
1
Really?? Even worse than Phoenix? Wow! That's terrible.
1
No one can afford to live in the suburbs plus it's bankrupting cities. To me, American suburbs are hideous and unattractive. They're nothing but asphalt and grass, not to mention cramped and cheap mcmansions. I'd rather live in a European town or city.
1
central planning works, it just depends on how well or efficient the plan is. Most developed countries have a form of centralized zoning, it's necessary if you want to build a livable city.
1
Sorry about that!
1
what???
1
No offense, but I find Houston and other car dependant American cities very ugly and hostile to live in.
1
That will unfortunately never happen. Many suburbanites are entitled and want to live the "high life", which is why they demand city infrastructure and maintenance. Despite the fact that they don't even live in one.
1
Yup!!
1
Why??
1
as opposed to roads owned by pepsi or coke??? the problem isn't government or taxes, the Netherlands has both and it's perfectly fine.
1
ย @shanes.9016ย Lol! Toll roads in Florida rank as some of the worst in America. Also, most "private roads" are still facilitated by taxes and government regulations/guide lines. Private suburbs use the city to make and maintain their road infrastructure and most private highways are built and maintained by taxes. Lolberterians don't know how the world works!!
1
ย @shanes.9016ย What motive does Pepsi or coke have?? And they do, they have boards that are publicly funded and only exist for the specific reason of building roads and highways.
1
Uniquely inefficient and ugly!
