They cost more to maintain, especially when they sprawl and extend for miles. They're destructive to the environment and actually cause more pollution than cities.   9. American suburbs are ugly and let's face it, not all that private. You can literally see into your neighbours drive way and a lot of modern suburbs are congested. You are living like a sardine in a can, just one filled with a patch of fake looking grass.
