  1. You are right Rick! Technology is great, but it also made people lazy and complacent. Now music is everywhere 24/7. But when I was young, you did not listen to music in the bus, at school, during running or in the shops. We were used to silence or just chatting without any distraction. Now people cannot go without background noise anymore, afraid of the silence. People get overdosed on noise and ditraction, and aren't used to just sit down for a chat or sit down to enjoy music. People have to be distracted all day, because they aren't use to quiet periods during the day, so they cannot stand it, let alone appreciate it. You can listen to music everywhere, so why sit down for it? When we came home from school or work, you were looking forward to put your cassette in the cassette player, the record on the record player and later the cd in the cd player or just turn the radio on and just sat down to listen, soak in the music. And it was magical when you went to town to visit the record shop with your hard earned cash, browsing through the racks with albums. The smell, the images on the covers, the store owner who knew what you liked and helped you search for that one album and then the listening at the counter through head phones or if you were lucky, through the loud speakers in the store. But now there is too much music, it is too easily available, too cheap and also has lost its value. It has become background noise for people who are not used (and often afraid) of the silence. Overdosed on distraction and noise, their concentration span is as low as the memory span of a gold fish. We need to slow down, put away our phones, learn to appreciate the silence, so when can appreciate the times when we hear music. Same goes for human interaction, now on parties of youngsters eveybody is holding a phone, like junkies clinging to their last (you know what), instead of chatting and enjoying music together, it is a PAT party (as in LAT relation) Party alone together, we are togther, but all on our own digital island. It is the same as a proper meal, if you never have one and don't even sit down properly to eat and only eat junk food, you will never learn to appreciate a good freshly cooked meal with family or friends.
