A lot of the artillery work Russia is doing seems to be of the old area bombardment type, while Ukraine has been using theirs surgically and getting first shot hits since the first days, with the same equipment. That's been their saving grace so far. The guns are doing the lion's share of the work in this war, and Ukraine needs more of them. A lot of things have needed to be rewritten. MANPAD's and SAM's have neutralized air for the most part, and mines and ATGM's have removed armor as a decisive force. Artillery is back to doing the job it's always had.
