  1. The "control towers" on the dam are cranes used to lift the gates. The next gate after the damage is open. One of the cranes is still intact, so they can operate the gates from there to the damaged section if the track's still good. They'll probably open up the ones they can and let the reservoir drain. The power plant doesn't need the height difference anymore. They'll be able to repair this once it's safe to do so.

  2. As long as the dike around the cooling pond stays intact, they're fine. There is a small channel in the original river bed going to the water inlet pumping station, and a larger one to the north side where trucks could pump water in. Rainwater is plenty to keep the pond filled with all the reactors shut down. ZNPP is the other type of Soviet plant from Chernobyl. The heat exchangers are directly in the pond. They don't need to pump water constantly to keep them cool.

  7.  @cjjohnson9413  - Sure I can. Nuclear weapons aren't power. They can't be used to accomplish anything and are irrelevant to the military art. If Russia wants to win a war, their conventional forces have to do it, and they aren't in the first or second rank at that anymore. The first and second rank military powers are all in NATO. Russia is the flaccid rump state of a rump state that has been crumbling for more than a century. The massive military power it once had no longer exists, and its equipment and the industries to make it have been allowed to rust by a corrupt inheritor. This is Russia's last war as a former major power.
