  2. Actually, a "CALORIE tax" is probably what you mean? But it doesn't work like you think it does. There are a multitude of metabolic/endocrine (leaving-out lifestyle) differences across any population. As a retired NHS clinician of 23 years, I really assure you that I have seen extreme measures (eg. gastric band) tried; and astonishingly, whilst they appear to cause short/medium term weight-loss, the outcomes are far LESS CERTAIN in the longer term. Highly-strung, nervously-energised individuals can eat astonishing amounts of protein and not gain weight (and they won't necessarily exercise either). So public ignorance prevails; and at the core of the blame are all the "experts" who are reluctant to discuss truthfully the complexity of obesity's causes.
