– Scott, it was the wrong platform for someone like Peter Hitchens. Those involved had no interest at all of i) listening to his opinion ii) understanding his rationale. There is a large risk in "mobilising public opinion" to manipulate government policy. WMD and the Iraq invasion the most lethal example.

@aubreyheartburn Just remember Audrey: this rubbish is in our faces because the NuLabour apparatchiks run the MSM (especially the tv, and in particular the free-to-air tv) and run the public sector. BUT, as last November's G/Election revealed, it has no traction with the masses. This government must choose its fights. But hopefully, in the lifetime of this government (across two parliaments) there will be a claw-back to more normality in some shape or other. Boris and his party are liberals in the proper meaning of the word. They are not blind to the sentiments of people like you. Starkey in an online Sun interview regarding Boris' election victory (at 46:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7Yzy6Rqrmc&t=2783s) explains 'the rump' of Labour's vote being reduced to a few within the black and Muslim community. The decriminalising of the license fee is most pressing. Just don't lose heart; the vast majority in the UK are 'c'onservative (small 'c').
