  1. Eight of the cities Briggs mentioned are on either the East or the West Coasts, where housing costs are just ridiculous. I’m sure Chicago is pricey too, but not compared to SF or NYC.

  2. All of the 10 places Briggs mentioned are larger cities than Portland. More people means that more might be homeless. Also, five of the cities mentioned are in super-expensive California and three more are on the very expensive East Coast, where being able to pay for rent is a daunting prospect.
