One of my Grandfather's was in RFC, before the War a keen runner, after he was shot out of the sky, he survived but spent the rest of his life in and out of a back brace, although he did command an Army Cadet unit during WW2 in Sudbury, Suffolk. My other was a 2nd LT in KOYLI, was blown off his horse at Havrincourt in May 17, back to UK to convalesce, then back to France in REs until 19. WW2 he was ARP in Wallasey, Merseyside. Both died in the 70s.
