  5.  @syav4467  Ukraine was one of the most developed soviet republics when USSR collapsed. I think its GDP in 1991 was only slightly less of Russia's. The fact that it's so economically small and weak now is a courtesy of their crooked elites/government, who looted the country like crazy. It's known as one of the most corrupt countries for a reason.

GDP at Purchasing Power Parity, per capita gives more accurate picture. 1990 Russia: $8000 1990 Ukraine: $7000 www.youtube.com/ watch?v=xx_EpbMtue0 As for the today's Ukraine GPD, it's solely courtesy of of their "independent" government and its policies of de-industrialization, mass emigration and corruption.
