  1. It not just suddenly "became acceptable". Google actually forces developers to implement it. If you have an app with UGC they'll force you to add user controls to hide content from other users or you won't get an approval to be in their store.

  2.  @rodiculous9464  It is less subjective. It's common sense that things are just "evil" no matter how you try to "spin" them. With "do the right thing" it's becomes totally ok to do those evil things, if some devil-worshipers who are in charge think they are "right" (for them). Hence the change.
