  48. I thought jets were the way to go. Jets are not expensive as you think. Expensive is making them last and being able to heat up and cool down repeatedly. Making a jet with a range of several hundred miles and a life span of hours is relatively cheap. Jets for me262 were easier to make than engines for German fighters. The heat resistant alloys are the difficult part. If they burn out in a few hours that is ok
